As demand for housing increases in Wellington, the barriers to accessing permanent, affordable accommodation worsen for our women.
At WWH, we’re constantly searching for ways to support women into their own homes. However, with elements like cost, competition in the market and stigma, it is becoming increasingly more challenging.
Last month we were approached by a landlord offering to provide a tenancy to a woman at the House. We were able to match them with a resident who is nearing the end of her tenancy and after a meeting and viewing, she was offered the house! This is a massive step for minimising the barriers to access for women looking to move into sustainable and safe housing in Wellington.
One of the most valuable ways to contribute to housing women during difficult periods in their lives is to connect with organisations like us and offer your support as a landlord. If this is something you’re interested in, we would absolutely love to hear from you! Please get in touch at [email protected] if you have any questions.
